Fuel Quality Testing in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, & Oklahoma

Fuel quality testing is an important task that should not be overlooked. Testing your fuel’s quality will ensure it is good to use and isn’t contaminated by water, bacteria, oxidation, or other issues. At Red River Oil Company, fuel quality testing is one of the many fuel, lubricant, and oil services we offer throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Our goal is to make sure you have the information you need about the quality, safety, and reliability of your fuel so that you don’t encounter any unpleasant surprises.

What Is Fuel Quality Testing?

Fuel quality testing is a precise testing process that evaluates fuel safety, quality, and performance. It can also determine if fuel meets necessary regulations and standards. If you work in an industry that relies on high-quality fuel, such as the automotive, agricultural, aviation, transportation, marine, construction, or energy industry, you should schedule regular fuel testing for your stored fuel.

Benefits of Fuel Quality Testing

Our fuel testing services will determine if your fuel is stable and efficient, if it has any buildup of contaminants, and if you need fuel oil maintenance services. The benefits of fuel quality testing are:

  • Early Detection of Contaminants – We can catch problems with your fuel early, particularly signs of contamination. Using contaminated fuel can cause damage to your equipment and fuel systems and cause them to fail or become unsafe. The most common impurities we detect are water, bacteria, and inorganic debris.
  • Improved Fuel Efficiency – Fuel impurities can affect fuel efficiency when used in equipment and vehicles. When you use contaminated fuel, you will use more fuel, and your productivity and power output will decrease.
  • Enhanced Safety for Fuel Storage – Our testing methods will determine if your stored fuel is safe to use when and where you need it most.
  • Maintain Compliance With Regulatory Agencies – Our testing will make sure your fuel complies with local and federal regulations and meets environmental standards.

Our Fuel Quality Testing Services

We offer routine and laboratory gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene, and diesel fuel quality testing. We offer our services across industries, and we specialize in agricultural, automotive, marine, construction, transportation, energy, and aviation fuel quality testing:

  • Routine Fuel Quality Testing – We will pull a sample of fuel from the bottom of your fuel storage tank. Our technician will check your fuel for water, bacteria, inorganic debris, and signs of oxidation. We will also assess its overall quality. We will provide you with a written report of our results and recommendations.
  • Laboratory Fuel Analysis – We will pull a sample of fuel from the bottom of your fuel storage tank and send it to a laboratory for a comprehensive analysis. This analysis provides detailed information on the level or percentage of water and sediment, its cetane index, its ISO cleanliness, its API gravity, and its distillation. You should receive your results in two or three weeks.

The Fuel Quality Testing Process

Our fuel quality testing process involves getting a sample of the fuel, preparing it, and testing it using specialized equipment. We use specific procedures depending on the type of fuel being tested:

  • Gasoline – We use the Antiknock Index (AKI) to measure octane quality. We can also use a portable octane screener to assess the spectrum of your fuel sample against a calibration curve to determine its octane value. We can also recommend gasoline additives.
  • Diesel – We determine the cetane number, which measures the combustion speed and efficiency of the fuel. We also determine the sulfur content and assess the levels of water and sediment. We can also run tests to determine the stability of the fuel and the level of contamination.
  • Fuel Oil and Kerosene – We test the quality of fuel oils and kerosene using distillation, API gravity, viscosity, and flash point.

Common Fuel Contaminants

Our testing processes determine the specific level of common fuel contaminants that could affect the safety, performance, and efficiency of your fuel. We will test for these common fuel contaminants:

  • Inorganic Debris – Inorganic debris can infiltrate fuel when it is transferred between storage tanks or exposed to the air. Any debris can affect the fuel’s performance and efficiency and cause wear and tear on the equipment or vehicle it is used in.
  • Water – Water can enter your fuel from condensation. When water infiltrates your fuel, it can cause corrosion and it will eventually erode the injector nozzles. It can also reduce the efficiency of the combustion process and the lubrication of your system components.
  • Bacteria – Bacteria can grow if there is any free water present in the fuel storage tank.
  • Wax – Wax can be a component of fuel and can gel in cold conditions.
  • Air – Air can enter the storage system through holes in the storage tanks or leaks in system connections and fuel lines.
  • Asphaltenes – Asphaltenes are found naturally in crude oil and can remain when fuel is refined.
